Martha Hennessy

Martha was sentenced to 10 months in prison for her participation in the Plowshares Kings Bay action.

Martha Hennessy seventh child of Dorothy Day’s only child Tamar, divides her time between the family farm in Vermont and volunteer work at Maryhouse Catholic Worker in New York City.

She is 62, a retired occupational therapist, and grandmother of eight. She has been arrested and imprisoned protesting nuclear power, war, the use of drones, the torture of prisoners in Guantanamo and other prisons, and the use of starvation as a weapon of war in Yemen.

Mark Colville

Mark was sentenced to 21 months in prison for the Kings Bay Plowshare action. He reported to the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center on June 8, 2021 to serve the remainder of his sentence. He had been incarcerated for 15 months prior to trial so should have to serve about four more months (until September 2021).

Clare Grady

Clare Grady has lived for many years in Ithaca, NY, on Cayuga People’s land, in Haudenausaunee territory. She comes from a big loving family, and is the mother of 2 grown daughters, Leah and Rosie.Drawing deeply from her Irish Catholic roots, she is grateful that her parents, Teresa and John, who raised their five kids in a community of faith-based resistance.

Patrick O'Neill

Patrick is one of the Kings Bay Plowshares 7. In his own words:

"61 years old I am the father of six daughters and two sons. My wife, Mary Rider, and I cofounded the Fr. Charlie Mulholland Catholic Worker House in Garner, N.C. in 1991, an intentional, pacifist, Christian community that works to uphold the Consistent Ethic of Life.

Carmen Trotta

Carmen has been a member of the New York Catholic Worker for over thirty years.  He is an integral part of the community which operates two houses of hospitality on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, caring for the poor and homeless, offering meals, clothing and shelter. Carmen is also an associate editor of The Catholic Worker newspaper which is published seven times annually and has been in constant publication since 1933.

He is a graduate of Grinnell College, where he played football and studied religion.

Song Kang-Ho, Dr.

Song is awaiting trial for praying for peace at the remaining part of Gureombi Rock, after cutting the fence and entering the Jeju Navy Base on March 7, 2020. This date marked the 8th anniversary since the blasting of Gureombi Rock in 2012. On March 30, 4,700 people signed the petition calling for the two to not be imprisoned during their trial. Ryu Bok Hee was briefly detained and released on the 30th. Once again on April 3, when the court reviewed the legality of Dr. Song’s arrest warrant, 2,448 people signed the petition calling for his release.

Kings Bay Plowshares 7

Seven Catholic plowshares activists were detained early on the morning of April 5, 2018 at the Kings Bay Naval Base in St. Mary’s, Georgia. Kings Bay Naval base opened in 1979 as the Navy’s Atlantic Ocean Trident port.  It is the largest nuclear submarine base in the world.  There are six ballistic missile subs and two guided missile subs based at Kings Bay. 

Norman Lowry

Norm was arrested at a protest at a military recruitment office on August 1, 2011.  Lancaster County Judge Louis Farina told Norman Edgar Lowry, Jr. that unless he would forswear his nonviolent protest, the court would be obliged to impose the maximum sentence (7 years) for Lowry’s third consecutive arrest at an Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Lancaster.

If only he would make such a promise, the judge implied, his sentence would be much lighter. Did he understand?, the court asked. Yes, Lowry answered. Will you make the pledge? No.

Shakir Hamoodi

Dr. Shakir Hammodi - a Columbia business man sentenced to three years in prison for violating trade sanctions - was released from prison to a Columbia halfway house on December 9, 2014.

Between 1993 and 2003, Hamoodi sent more than $200,000 to friends and family in his native Iraq in violation of U.S. imposed sanctions on the country. In 2012, he was sentenced to three years in prison for the violation.
